Libraries in the Sky: Floating Towards Cloud Computing

Abstract



Cloud Computing refers to both the applications delivered as services over the Internet and the hardware and systems software in the datacenters that provide those services. Cloud computing is a new technique of computing that is extensively used in today’s industry as well as society. It is a contemporary model and one of the latest computer industry buzzwords. Cloud computing brings the revolutionary changes in the world of Information Communication Technology because of its potential benefits such as reduced cost, accessible anywhere anytime as well as its elasticity and flexibility. It has emerged as a new model for managing and delivering services over the Internet. This paper gives an overview of Cloud computing technology and describes various models, advantages and disadvantages. It also describes the various applications of cloud computing especially for libraries.
