Information Need and Seeking Behavior of Diabetic Patient: A Case Study on Rajshahi Region in Bangladesh

Abstract



The study mainly deals with the information need and seeking behavior of diabetic patients of the city areas of Rajshahi in Bangladesh. Information on diabetic patients was collected from the 105 diabetic patients from the surveyed areas through questionnaire and personal interviews. It is observed that most of the patients had been recently suffering from diabetes between 0 to 5 years. They consulted with physicians at diabetic center once in 2 months. Moreover, it was seen that the importance on controlling diabetes of the respondents was extremely high and all of them are needed diabetes control related information. Besides, the majority of the respondents believed that information on physical exercise was extremely required. The paper finds that maximum patients treat regular consultation with the physicians as very reliable in order to control the diabetes for a healthy life. This paper also revealed that printed format of publication in Bangla medium was mostly preferred as source of information due to low level education of respondents. Furthermore, while asking about the satisfaction level of sought information, most of them mentioned that they were satisfied.
