E-resources in Academic Libraries

Abstract



This article discusses about the popularity of e-resources in the contemporary age and also acknowledges the role of librarians in facilitating the access of these resources at remote locations of the world. Academic libraries subscribe to variety of e-resources to quench the thirst of its users for latest information in the fastest way. Although, availability of these electronic resources enables remote access to needed information, still they pose various problems and challenges for the library staff in providing smooth access to these resources. The main issues and challenges confronted and discussed in this article are access control, volatile coverage, overlapping coverage, workload and staff. It has been concluded that provided that the librarians continue to maintain their tempo and sincere efforts towards this cause, would definitely be able to successfully resolve these issues.
