Citation Analysis of Doctoral Theses of Library and Information Science

Abstract

Citation analysis is an important research tool understanding the subject. It measures the utility of documents and relationship between documents in the subject and authors. Present paper focused to research performance of the researchers in Jiwaji University, Gwalior using citation analysis. The study covers 14767 citations from 65 doctoral theses and analyzed different aspects of citation study. The study observed that the most of the cited source is books 42.52% of citations. The rate of collaboration is 0.21 and reflects the degree of prevalence of single authored publication. Time spans of 1986-1995 are the most productive years of cited documents by the researchers. Study reveals that most of the contributions of journals are from U.S.A. There are covering 543 journals in the study, in which ASLIB Proceeding 321 with 6.88% of citations, is a library science journal occupy the first rank and Annals of Library Science Documentation 247 with 5.29% of citations occupy the second rank respectively. The assumed hypothesis i.e. researchers prefer journals published in foreign countries is found true in the study.
