An Evaluation of Organizational Structure in Two University Libraries

Abstract



Organizational structure is an important factor in improving library services. A good organizational structure will increase the productivity of library staff and will also help the library users. The objective of this study is to know the perception and effect of organizational structure on library services.
Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study using total enumeration technique. Questionnaire was used for data collection. Data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics consisting of tables of frequency and percentages.

The findings of this study reveal that the library staff are well aware of the organizational structure and that the structure and communication can improve the services of the library. The study reveals that organizational structure improves library services, it helps to keep departments and sections coordinated together and workers in different departments cooperate with one another. The study further shows that is an essential tool for establishing authority allocations, mandatory information flows, work allocation and workflow patterns, and grouping arrangements for employees.
