Sangeeta Dhamdhere, Egbert de Smet, Ramdas Lihitkar

Abstract

This paper presents a study of web-based best practices followed in modern libraries from all over the world and compares them to Indian libraries. First of all a lot of examples of such 'best practices' are shown as illustrations and inspiration to Indian university libraries. Secondly, based on some statistical analysis of the differences found in the number of offered best-practice services in between top-ranked Indian and world-universities, it can be concluded that Indian university libraries lag behind a lot and therefore fail to have real impact on their institution's ranking as is the case with the world-top universities.
