Open Source Library Management Software: Special Reference to Koha and ABCD

Abstract



Library is a very essential part of any educational organizations or system, where software plays a vital role in information management. There are many commercial software’s available in market but commercial library management software are very expensive. On the other hand, OSS is available freeon cost. Open source library management software has been found very useful in various library operations.Open Source software is computer software whose source code is available under the GNU public license for users to look at and modify freely and permits users study, change, and improve the software.Koha and ABCD (Automatisacion de Bibliotecasy Centros de Documentacion), are such software, those are helpful to managing library systems more economically and effectively. The present paper highlights the brief features about Koha and ABCD open source library management software like; modules, requirement support etc.
