Impact of SOUL 2.0 on Services in ANCA Library: A Study

Abstract



The aim of this paper is to identify the impact of application of SOUL 2.0 library automation software in library functioning i.e. acquisition, cataloguing, circulation, OPAC, serial control and administration at Anand Niketan College of Agriculture Library , Anandwan,Maharashtra State, India. The survey was carried out to collect the data through questionnaire, visit and personal discussion with librarian, library staff, students and academic staff to know about the selection of library software latest version SOUL 2.0, resources, services, facilities and users of library to identify the impact of application of library software SOUL 2.0. The collected data were analyzed and tabulated for findings and conclusion. It was found that due to computerization 70 % saved time in the process of acquisition, 66 % cataloguing, 50%circulation, 67 % serial control and 50 % OPAC comparatively with manual functioning of library. SOUL is designed using Client-Server Architecture which imparts extra strength to storage capacity, multiple accesses to single database, various levels of security, backup and storage facilities etc. It is concluded that the users are getting better and accurate information by saving their time and money, use of library increased and the library staff is rendering efficient and effective services by showing their own interest due to application of software developed by INFLIBNET, Ahmadabad, and sponsored by UGC Govt. of India
