Economically Weaker Women: Their Information Needs and Preferences in Gathering Information
Abstract
The present study reports the information needs of the economically weaker women in Bhalki taluk of Bidar District of Karnataka state, India using interview schedule. It also reports on their preferences – language, source, method for obtaining information. Observes that library system has no role presently in supporting the economically weaker women and hence stresses on the need to redesign the rural libraries to meet the requirements of the users and prove their significance. It is highly essential for the rural libraries and librarians to go to people (particularly economically weaker women) and prove their worthiness as ‘FRIEND’ and extend their support in making the information required by them.
