Evaluation of E-Resources Awareness and Training Needs Among Undergraduate Students of Bowen University
Abstract
Purpose: this research investigated the level of awareness and training needs of undergraduate students of Bowen University on electronic resources (e-resources).
Methodology: this research adopted the descriptive survey design with accidental sampling techniques to elicit information from students using Bowen university library.
Findings: The result of the findings showed that there was a low awareness of the various e-resources source and the various formats. On how to know about e-resources, library notice board and library lecture classes were rated highest, 83% indicated training needed while email, departmental notice board followed by SMS were highest for getting information about e-resources training. Some items were considered important to be trained on while the format of training has specific training and one-on-one as the highest rated; poor power and internet top the list of challenges. Some recommendations were made at the end of the work.
Research limitations/implications: the respondents are limited to Bowen university students but it is important to understand the awareness level with the various methods and the training needs in-terms of how, what to train on, types of training and challenges to use of e-resources.
Originality: the result of this research will be beneficial to old and new libraries in the area of e-resources awareness creation and training needs of their users in an academic library.
