Redesigning Academic Libraries: Moving Towards User-Oriented Services and Resources

Abstract


The Information access, storage and retrieval in a networked environment have become a great challenge for the library professionals. The development of networked information resources and services has significantly changed the methods and techniques of information access and delivery. The role of academic libraries has changed from ‘information collection’ to ‘information generation’. The Academic libraries are being designed to be more user-oriented and maximum number of services and resources are also being incorporated to meet the everlasting needs of their clients. The changing paradigms in information sharing have also strengthened the cooperation among all libraries and professionals. The current paper presents the shifting of academic libraries from traditional form to networked information services and resource provider and a new partnership between information professionals and information services.
